Colorful Male house finch,feeds his young.
This is a image of a male house finch feeding a new born fledge (a young bird with wing feathers large enough for flight) and teaching it how to crack sunflower seeds. Fresh out of the nest the baby begins to cheep asking to be fed. With its mouth wide open and already full of seeds the baby continues to cheep. The full ground male stands ready with a beak full of previously cracked seeds for the young one. The female finch normally feeds the baby's, but in this case the male pitches in on the chore. They are perched at a tube feeder filled with sunflower seeds. Eventually the full-grown male will fly a short distance from the feeder, leaving the young bird to fend for itself and learn to crack seeds. House finches is a bird in the finch family found in North America. The house finch is a descendant of escaped caged birds. Pin feathers remain on the young birds head differentiating it from its female parent.
