TREATMENT OF DISEASES BY ATOMIZED FLUIDS. 1019 TREATMENT OF DISEASES OF THE PHARYNX AND OF THERESPIRATORY ORGANS BY ATOMIZED FLUIDS. Medicated vapors and gases have been employed at differentperiods, in the treatment of diseases of the pharynx and of therespiratory organs, from very early times. The Grecian, Roman, and Arabian physicians seem to have recommended their inhala-tion in these affections. In 1849, Auphaii, of Euzet-les-Bains,proposed to atomize, or pulverize, mineral water, by throwingforcibly a jet of it against the wall of a room; converted by thismeans into a fine spray, it was thus scattered through the at-mosphere of the apartment, and inhaled by the patient. Soonafterwards, Sales-Girons and Fhibe constructed an apparatus atIierrefonds, by which mineral waters, simple or medicated, were Fiir. 1.^ Fio-.
