A Victorian donkey powered hydraulic ram housed in a building above the well supplied water drawn from from this spring known as a well locally on the banks of the River Tweed to Benrig House for some 50 years The Elliots of Benrig House also built a small gasworks to supply the house and an icehouse The spring water is still used occasionally for local baptisms
