Within a few years bacteriology has revolutionizedsurgical pathology. All wound complications and mostof the acute and chronic inflammatory lesions whichcome under the treatment of the surgeon are caused bymicroorganisms; hence the necessity of a proper recog-nition of the importance of bacteriology as an integralpart of the science and practice of modern surgery. It has been the endeavor of the author to present thedifferent subjects contained in this work in as concise amanner as possible, and at the same time to omit nothingwhich might be deemed necessary to impart a fair knowl-edge of the subject.
