University of Alicante (2-5/29 (2001) apparatus used, in navigation for the determination of the course, its appearance was due to the need to correct the deviation of the needle produced by the action of land magnetism, first observed by Cristobal Colón during his discovery trip. It is formed by a conventional nautical needle, mounted in suspended and stuck in a brass cubichete with a glass lid to preserve it from the action of the wind, dust and water. The set is based on A tripod. In the upper part, an alidade of pyns that allowed to measure horizontal angles with respect to the magnetic meridian and make enforcement of a terrestrial object has been coupled in order to know the true situation N-S with respect to the magnetic north indicated by the compass .
