Aihdt female. Similar in colour to the male. Total length 8*5 inches, culmen 1'15, wing 5, tail 2'4, tarsus 1"15. In ivinter plumage all the feathers are tipped with arrow-shaped spots of greyish white ; the wing-coverts, quills, and tail-feathers are edged with sandy brown; the bill is blackish. Young.
