The Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Balik Pulau, Penang, Malaysia, Asia

The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus is a colonial-style church in Balik Pulau. This Balik Pulau Church was built in 1854, making it one of the older churches in Penang. However, the beginning of this church can be traced even earlier, to 1845, when the first parish priest, Reverent Fr. Ducotey held the inaugural Eucharist at a then attap hut. The nave of the present church was built between 1871 and 1881 during the time of Reverend Fathers J. Lo, Kremel and Galmel, where were instrumental in founding the St George's and Sacred Heart schools in Balik Pulau.
