LIMA BEANS: Bush Varieties Length Width of pod of pod inches inches Days CLARK'S BUSH (^roj) m % ^ Exclusively a product of the Asgrow breeding program and introduced in 1940, this is a distinct variety of Henderson's Bush type, resembling the original in plant and pod but dis- tinguished by its freedom from white beans at all harvesting stages and its heavier yield. Seeds mainly pale green: 70 per oz. Introduced by the Plant medium large. Pods uniform in size, shape and fill; contain 3 or 4 large, broad green beans. Seeds greenish cream: 25 per oz. 70 EVERGREEN (Asgrmu) 3 3^ 6Q A distinctively different baby Lima, bred by Asgrow and in- troduced in 1949. Retains the advantages of Henderson's Bush type plant and small size beans, but has flavor and seed shape so similar to the large Limas that the beans may well be described as small Fordhooks. In addition to combining Ford- hook quality with small size, they are green-seeded, both seed coat and cotyledons retaining a pleasing green tint well beyond optimum harvest stage. The pods are usually concentrated at base and contain 3 to 4 small, plump beans which vine out readily. Seeds mostly pale green: 90 per oz. FORDHOOK, ASGROW CONCENTRATED (AsgtW) ^ j yj Bred at our Pacific Coast breeding station. Markedly different from the old Fordhook in that the pods are concentrated not only in regard to position but also in time of reaching maturity. The beans make an excellent product either canned or frozen. The plants are stocky, without tendrils, and very prolific.
