Looking towards the peak of Chacaltaya (5,395m) from La Paz, which until 2009 had a glacier which supported the worlds highest ski lift at over 17,000 feet. The glacier finally disappeared completely in 2009. La Paz will probably be the first capital city in the world that will have to be largely abandoned due to lack of water. It relies heavily on glacial meltwater from the surrounding Andean peaks, but as climate change causes the glaciers to melt, it is rapidly running short of water.
