Be that as it may, the disease broke out inthis part of the country some time between 1896, according toDr. Hodges, and 1901, when the disease was definitely diagnosed, andin a short time reduced a populous and richly cultivated country to adepopulated wilderness. Now, having discussed the introduction of sleeping sickness intoUganda, let me for a few minutes draw your attention to the diseaseitself. Sleeping sickness is a curious disease, and is essentially adisturbance of the functions of the brain.
