The ground plan shows an entrance hall a, 14 10 ft., with a commodious staircase b, iH ft. by12 ft., to the left. There was a closet to the right;. The one pair plan. a lift from the basement could easily be obtained study c, was about 16 ft. square, and was enteredfrom the hall; the dining-room e, had a bay window,and was in the centre of the building; it measured20 ft. square. The drawing-room d, was very large,being 31 ft. in length by 16 ft. in breadth, with alarge window at each end; this was often considered A SUBURBAN VILLA. 385 objectionable, as the occupants of the room can alwaysbe seen from the opposite houses, but as this wasintended for a semi-detached villa, windows could notbe obtained at the side. The one-pair plan contains one large and threesmall bedrooms, with a closet. Over the porch wasplaced a conservatory, and by its side the tower stair-case led up to the attic.
