Gainesville Creek, aboutfour miles from the station, on EastCoy creek, near the centre of the town-ship, contains a large female seminaryafter the plan of the Mt. Holyokeseminary, Massachusetts. The build-ing will accommodate loo boarding-pupils, and 150 day-scholars. Gaines-ville Creek is the home of the Bristol, known as the soldiersfriend. To the north-east of Gaines-ville Station is Silver Lake, threemiles long, the scene of action ofa supposed monster seipent, whosealleged performances created so muchexcitement in 1855. The village ofPerry is situated near the outlet of thelake, about six miles from the is a thriving village, has a woolen-factory, a furnace, three flouring-mills,a bank, a newspaper office, severalchurches, and the Perry Academy.
