The teaching of hand work is at present based on the theory that it is astimulus to the intellect. It gives the boys practical ideas. It shows them whatproduction means and what it costs; and it helps them to cultivate taste and re-sourcefulness. If a boy leaves school at an early age, the training he has receivedwill be useful to him. If he attends a collegiate institute he goes on with the workin a higher form, and that leads him perhaps to the School of Mines or the Facultyof Applied Science at the University, and so on to one of the engineering profes-sions.
