Australian Bird of Paradise fly

Scale insects of the endemic Australian genus Callipappus are remarkable for the immense size of the females (up to 40 mm) and the beauty of adult males. Males are commonly called bird-of-paradise flies because of their purplish colour and the long glassy white tails.
