Tectonic plate boundary, Iceland. Water-filled section of the Icelandic part of the fissure that marks the boundary between the North American and the Eurasian tectonic plates. These two tectonic plates are moving apart, creating cracks in rock at the Earth's surface. The boundary, known as the mid-Atlantic ridge, divides Iceland and is splitting it apart.
