Augustus (63 BC-14 AD), Roman emperor. Augustus was the first emperor of Rome, following the assassination of Julius Caesar, expanding the empire and ruling for over 40 years from 27 BC until his death. This artwork is from a 1691 Dutch edition of a collection of works by the Roman historian Suetonius, best known for his 121 AD work 'De Vita Caesarum' (On the Life of the Caesars, or 'The Twelve Caesars'). The Latin text at bottom describes the emperor and names the engraver of this artwork as Joannes Schildius. The editor of the book was the German philologist Johannes G. Graevius (1622-1703).
