An old engraving of the first Keokuk Bridge It is from a Victorian mechanical engineering book of the 1880s. The Keokuk Bridge was a single-track railway bridge across the Mississippi River in the United States between Keokuk, Iowa, and Hamilton, Illinois, just downstream of Mississippi Lock and Dam number 19. It was constructed in 1869–1871 and contained a swing section to allow ships to pass through. Here the bridge is open to shipping and paddle steamers line up a wharf. A later double-deck bridge was constructed in 1915–1916 on the same piers.
