CARLSON, August Wilhelm, presi-dent, pro tem., of the ScandinavianMission from 1877 to 1878, was bornAug. 28, 1844, in Karlskrona, Sweden,the son of C. G. Carlson and MaryLundgren. He was baptized May 15,1863, labored in the Goteborg Confer-ence in 1864-1865, in the office in Co-penhagen in 1865-1866, and in theMillennial Star office in Liverpool,England, in 1867 and 1871. He cameto Utah in December, 1871. Beingcalled on a special mission to Scan-dinavia for the purpose of translatingthe Book of Mormon into the Swed-ish language, he left Salt Lake Cityin August, 1877. He performed his BIOGRAPHICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA 369 mission faithfully, and before his re- to 1894. (See Bio. Ency., Vol. 2, an edition of 2,000 copies of the 422.) CHRISTE
