The fruit is about half the size of ordinary oranges; scarcely ever without either blossoms or fruit, and often completely enveloped with both. 15c each; 4 for 50c; 5-inch pot plants by express, 35c. PHYSALIS FRANCHETI. (JAPANESE GIANT WINTER CHERRY.). This attractive plant recently introduced from Japan, has been widely advertised as the Chinese Lantern Plant, so called from its fancied resem- blance to a miniature Chinese lantern. When cov- ered with its bright fruit it certainly is a very strik- ing and beautiful plant. It grows about 18 inches high and produces in abundance bright red cherry- like fruits, which are enclosed in an enormous bal- loon-like semi-transparent calyx 3 inches long and from 6 to 7 inches in circumference that is a bright orange scarlet when mature. They hold their color for a long time after being cut and can be used to advantage for winter decorations in bouquets of dried grasses, etc. 10c each; 3 for 25c.
