Annual or perennial herbs, occasionally twining, and usually either strong-scented oraromatic. Leaves collected in rosettes at the root, or distributed upon the stem, ^Sr^.^^s. opposite, entire, or variously di-vided in a pinnate way. Flowerssometimes (^ ? by abortion, witha centrifugal expansion ; in Tri-plostegia furnished with an invo-lucre. Calyx superior ; the linibeither membranous, or resemblingfeathery pappus. Corolla mono-petalous, tubular, msertcd uito thetop of the ovary, with from W t(»G lobes, cither regular or irregular,sometimes calcai-ate at the from 1 to 5, insertedinto the tube of the corolla, and alternate with its lobes.
