France, Semur en Auxois -Notre Dame in Semur-en-Auxois, stained glass window

Notre-Dame of Semur-En-Auxois is considered as a remarkable example of the Gothic art. Most part of the sdifice date from the first half of the 13th entury. Unti the beginning of the 18th century, Notre-Dame remained a priory church, used by benedictin monks. During the revolution it became a temple to the Goddess Reason. Notre-Dame was restored in the middle of the 19th century, by the famous architect Viollet-Le-Duc. Adorned with vivid colours, like in the Middle-Ages, Our Lady's chapel contains a 14th century inspired statue. The 13th century stained glasses can be easly recognized by the intense crimson and deep blue.
