Light micrograph of intestinal metaplasia in the oesophagus. Intestinal metaplasia is identified by finding 'goblet cells', which are seen as the grey-blue goblet or waterdrop shaped cells scattered throughout the left side of this image. Barrett’s Oesophagus is intestinal metaplasia that occurs in the oesophagus, and is a risk factor for the development of cancer. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 100x when printed at 10 cm.
