Thesound may indicate two cavities, but in applying this test it is betterto use two sounds so that there may be no doubt of the presence of twocavities separated by a septum. Double uteri are prone to the formation of fibroid tumours, just asnormal uteri are, and many instances have been discovered in uteriremoved for these growths. Sometimes duplication of the uterus is not. Fig. 90. Accumulation of menstrual fluidwill then occur above the obstruction (cryptomenorrhoea), andlateral hsematocolpos or hsematometra will then be formed. Theclinical diagnosis of these conditions naturally presents great diffi-culty as there are no external signs of maldevelopment, and men-struation may be normal from the other side. Usually the dilatedportion has been mistaken for a neoplasm, and its true nature hasonly become apparent when exposed by operation.
