It is used inopening the lateral ventricles of the brain and for incisingthe cerebrum, cord and cerebellum. It should be keptmoist when in use to prevent the brain tissue from stickingto the blade. Dissecting scalpels of various sizes (Fig. 10) may beused for autopsy of small animals, and with a groove direc-tor (Fig. 11) for incising meninges. Incising knives are used in making long incisions in theliver, muscles, lungs, and in opening the kidneys (Fig. 12). Monosmitlis enucleation knife (Fig. 13) is used in POST-MORTEM INSTRUMENTS 25 removing the eyeball. Theblade curves in such manner asto cut the attachments andavoid injury to the sclera. A
