Magon's death at Trafalgar. 1874 illustration depicting the death of the French naval contre-amiral Charles Rene Magon de Medine (lower centre) onboard the Algesiras during the Battle of Trafalgar, in 1805. During the Battle of Trafalgar, part of the Napoleonic Wars, Magon was wounded by musket balls twice but remained at his post and led the fighting for five hours before finally being killed by a third musket ball. This conduct is seen by French historians as one of the few redeeming features of their disastrous defeat at the hands of Horatio Nelson. His name can be found on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France.
