As a ruie they should be planted out of doors after the weather has become somewhat settled and warm. After the first frost and the leaves have turned droopy or yellow, take up and put in a dry cellar or some other place where they will not freeze, storing in paper bags or soil preferably, and then re- planting the following year. Taking the Gladioli, these are among the easiest and most satisfactory bulbs for everybody to grow. As decorative flowers for the garden or the adornment of interiors as a cut flower, they have few superiors. We would also call attention to Cannas. The wonderful improvement to which this popular bedding plant has been developed makes it today one of the best of all summer flowering plants both for flowers and foliage. Its ornamental leaves varying from light pea green to darkest bril- liant maroons and bronzes can be used most effectively both in borders or beds. The flower spikes have been developed to enormous size and individual flowers sometimes measure 2 inches across. They are of most brilliant colors including all shades from creamy white through pure lemon yellow, orange, salmon, pink, scarlet to deep red velvety maroons. Many of the flowers are tinged with gold, some spotted and others striped until there is a gorgeous display which continues in bloom from early summer until cut by frost.
