A basement was made under the edificein which prayer meetings and Sundaj school have since beenheld. The stones of the old church went into the basementand foundation walls and so did the stones of the LeFevre-house, which until that time had occupied what is now thenorthern part of the churchyard. Rev. John C. \andervoort succeeded Rev. Douw \ anOlinda in 1845. He was an earnest preacher, but only re-mained until 1848 when he assumed the charge of the churchat West Ghent, tolnnibia county. Rev. Charles H. Stitt was the next minister. He was in-stalled in 1848.
