Ploughing demonstration with team of Shire horses at charity event in north east Lincolnshire UK England
Horses working on farms are not such a common sight in the English countryside anymore. However in Lincolnshire and surrounding counties there are many enthusiasts who keep horses like Shires, Suffolk Punches and Clydesdales mainly for show purposes and, as a business, to popularity of the 'heavy' horse is not in doubt judging by the numbers that do turn out to county agricultural events as well as to national and world ploughing matches held in various parts of the UK and overseas. The two Shires in this image belong to Tom Clift of Sturton by Stow nr Lincoln. Tom is demonstrating his skills to raise money for Cancer relief at a charity ploughing match held in the County.
