The preliminary part of the report wasissued separately in 1900, as required bylaw; but as the preparation of the mainbody of the text and illustrations alwaysinvolves some delay, advantage is taken ofthe opportunity to introduce current arti-cles upon important matters related tothe work of the Commission, thus bring-ing the subject up to the actual date ofpublication. The financial statement shows the effec-tive utilization of the various items of theappropriation. The Superintendent of theForestry Department, in addition to hisannual report upon the present conditionof the forests, and the necessary steps tobe taken for their preservation,
