Only afew minutes later General Butler and staff, with his body-guard of 200 men,appeared in the same track. We got away quick, as we were always afraidof arrest, for some unknown cause, if he happened along. He was riggedout in gilt and feathers, and his staff looked like a Governors staff onan inauguration PICKET CAMP. CHAPTER XXVII. LIFE AT DEEP BOTTOM.
