The shelf canbe lifted out of the table entirely, and the similar plate shelf underthe adjustable portion of the table is hinged so that it can be droppedout of the way—for fluoroscopic examination of a patient with thetube under the table. It will be seen in the illustrations that ample space for the move-ment of the tube under the table is provided for by the arrangementof the table legs and their supporting bar, and of the support of the. This segment is attached tothe fixed portion by hinges of fibre so constructed that the movable, directly abuts against the stationary part, in all its adjustments fromthe lowermost (shown in Fig. 2—table closed) up to the verticalposition. This is chiefly of importance, however, when the table isopened out horizontally. In this position the table has a total lengthof six feet. The length of the adjustable portion is calculated to ac-commodate comfortably a patient sitting upright, or semi-recumbent,for fluoroscopy of the trunk, etc. The castors are ball-bearing and the table is easily shifted. The lever workseasily, even with a heavy patient on the table.
