The image is of the Kitchener memorial tower at Marwick Head, dedicated to Field Marshal Earl Kitchener of Khartoum who on the 5 June 1916 set sail for Russia during a force 9 gail on board the HMS battle cruiser Hampshire when the ship struck a German mine. The Hampshire sank almost immediately aided by the bad weather, killing Kitchener and 737 other men on board. The memorial is dedicated to Kitchener and those men who are named on the wall panels.
