'Old' / original Severn Suspension Bridge M48 linking Aust and Beachley seen at night / twilight / dusk / sunset from Aust / English side Near Chepstow Monmouthshire South Wales UK The original bridge has now largely been superseded by the Second Severn Crossing which opened in 1988 three miles downstream closer to Bristol and Newport, cutting journey times even further. The old / original Severn Bridge is now mainly used by traffic to and from Chepstow and the Wye Valley.
