Statue of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh as part of prayers during Diwali. Prayers are offered to these gods during festivities

Diwali is one of the most important festivals as part of the Hindu religion. As part of the festival, it has become custom to light lamps (over the ages, this has been oil lamps and now lamps / electrical lighting fixtures) around and outside the home or office establishment. As part of the mythology surrounding the festival, it celebrates the return of Lord Rama from his 14 year exile, after defeating the demon king Ravan. Diwali also marks the end of the harvest season and also invoking the blessings of the Goddess Lakshmi (Goddess of wealth) and inviting her into the home, symbolizing the prayers for inviting more wealth into the house. This photo shows part of the process of prayers that are done during the festival of Diwali. The plate contains the statues of Goddess Laskshmi, who is the Goddess of wealth, and that of Lord Ganesh, the god with the head of an elephant, who is seen as the God of good beginnings (he is the god who is prayed to when something new is started). Besides these, there are some of the items that are used during the prayer.
