Holmes^ Perfected Jersey Pickle ABSOLUTELY THE FINEST PICKLING STRAIN IN THE COUNTRY For some years vre have been using a strain of Jersey Pickle for our Perfected which we secured from a mar- ket-gardener a short distance from Harrisburg; this strain has deteriorated somewhat, and as we only sell the bestj decided to use this entirely new Pickler which we find far superior to our own. It was orisrinated by Mr. Coy, a vine seed specialist, who describes it as follows: "This variety was originated by us, and the entire exist- ing stock of seed is in our possession. The variety is of the hardy, "White Spine type, is a rapid, strong and vigorous grower, and very prolific in fruit. "THE PICKLES DIFFER FROM ALL OTHER HARDY SORTS in being thickly set with fine spines over the entire surface, except the extreme stem-end; and during the whole period of growth, from the time they first set until fully grown, the form is exceptionally straight and symmetrical, thus being as choice a slicing variety as it is for pickles. Osage Gem is a cross or hybrid of Osage and Netted Gem. It has the flesh color of one, and the size, shape and outside appearance of the other. The latter is identi- cal with Rocky Ford; that is, Rocky Ford is only an improved strain of Netted Gem. Hence, I can but describe this splendid new melon as a Rocky Ford with salmon-colored flesh.
