Jordanicus new .ifeinis ( Fierasferida^). Gilbert, new i;enus of Furuxfiriihe (FleraKfi^r iiiiihratjlis .Jordan & Evermann). Differing from Fii-nisj\r in the depressed head, whirh is as broad as it is high, and esjiecially in the adiiate niaxillaries and the lack of a distinct lower lip; the skin of snout and suborbital region passes without fold or other interruption over the maxillary and premaxillary, both of which are thus con- cealed and lirndy Imuud down; mandible broad and liat; fleshy margin of jaw wide, flattened to an edge, I'xtending well beyond dentary portion of jaw, but not separated by a fold from the intt'gu- nient covering the mandible; the manililndar teeth are o|i|iosed to the palatine band, and the ex|iaiided fleshy margin of mandilile shuts within the ]iremaxillary series both anteriorl)' ami laterally; no pronounced fold of integument along inner margin of the mandible; branchiostegals 7. tlordanicus umbratilis (.Jordan A Evermann). A single specimen, ]4(i mm. long, was taken in Puako Bay, Hawaii. It is exclusively a shore .species, introduced here for jiurposes of with Ficraxfcr. The angle formed by the gill-membranes on median line l)elow is behind eye a distance e(|ualing half iliameter of latter; premaxillary teeth minute, confined to anterior half of jaw, apparently in a single series; mandibidar and palatine teeth also in single series, those on sides of mandible directed laterally toward angle of mouth, none of them enlarged; 2 or 3 vomerine teeth are the largest in the mouth, and are arrangeil in a longitudinal series. Fii i-iisfrr parripitinis Kaup, resembles this species in the head and tumid cheeks, but accoi'ding to Kaup's figiu'e, it is a true Fiertissfrr. Fkratifi'v tuiittraUliA i<.\vf\
