Renfrewshire Wallace Monument Elderslie, Johnstome, Scotland, UK. This memorial stands near a site which, according to long-standing tradition, is said to be the birthplace of Sir William Wallace, Guardian of Scotland. This monument to our National Hero was erected in Elderslie as a victorian tourist located at assumed birthplace of Wallace. The overall shape of the memorial is like that of a mercat cross; it was designed by John Murray and J. Andrew Minty, and was erected in 1912.
