THOSE platforms, raifers, or blocks, arcadded to a caruage^ either as matter ofneceffity or appearance, but moltly for appear-ance, being generally ornamented with carvingin different degrees; their ufe is to elevate andfupport the budget, boot, hind foot-board, andfprings; they are generally placed on the fideof the carriage, and relieve the infide framingsfrom being obfcured by the platforms, as theyare lightened and moulded, and give to the car-riage a more airy appearance : being of variousdefigns, they are all omitted from the formercharge of the naked carriages as ftated, fo thatany defcription may be ^dded according to fancy* SECT.
