The bone marrow stroma contains mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), also known as marrow stromal cells. These are multipotent stem cells that can differentiate into a variety of cell types, including white blood cells (leucocytes), red blood cells (erythrocytes), cartilage cells (chondrocytes) and bone cells (osteocytes). Magnification: x6000 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
