A homemade grilled crab and cheese open sandwich made from the meat of a boiled European spider crab, Maja brachydactyla, that was caught in a drop net lowered off a pier and baited with a fish head. The ingredients consist of brown and white crab meat, mayonnaise, butter, toasted sourdough bread and mature cheddar cheese and ground black pepper. The European spider crab is found in both Atlantic and Mediterranean waters and in the Atlantic is named Maja brachydactyla, in the Mediterranean it is named Maja squinado.
