Tea Caddy style monument (12) to John Gardiner, Clothier, 1793, St Mary the Virgin's church, Painswick, Stroud, Gloucestershire. C15th parish church with unique collection of pedestal & table tombs & monuments mainly C17th & C18th: photos mainly chest tomb & tea caddy. Carved in local limestone by Painswick craftsmen they reflect prosperity of local wool merchants. Circa 99 clipped yews in churchyard, mainly C18th, legend: Devil removed 100th every time it was planted, will never allow 100 trees to grow.
