Chestnut-mandibled Toucan (Ramphastos ambiguus swainsonii) in foilage of a tree|Figs (Ficus)


The Swainson’s toucan or chestnut-mandibled toucan is a subspecies of the yellow-throated toucan. which breeds from eastern Honduras to northern Colombia to western Ecuador. Like other toucans it has a large beak. The body size is about 52-56 cm. The are living in small floks of 3-12 animals and are not flying more than 100m at a time. They are eating mostly fruits, but also insects, lizards, eggs and frogs.
