Virgo constellation. Optical image of the zodiacal constellation Virgo, the virgin. North is at top. Its brightest star is Spica (Alpha Virginis), seen at lower left. At upper left is the red giant star Arcturus (Alpha Bootis), the fourth brightest star in the sky, in the neighbouring constellation Bootes, the herdsman. At upper right is part of the constellation Leo, the lion. Denebola (Beta Leonis) forms a nearly equilateral triangle with Arcturus and Spica. The Sun passes through Virgo in late Autumn, so it is best placed for observation in late Spring from the northern hemisphere.
