Major General William R. Smith, Commander of the 36th Division, transfers command of a sector to Major General Joseph Spire of the 22nd French Division. The 36th Division held the sector for 22 days and advanced from St. Etienne to the Canal along the River Aigne. Lieutenant Peutet, an interpreter with the 36th Div., is also present. The location of the event is Dricourt, Ardennes, France. This photograph was released by the Censor on December 23, 1918.
