Palanquin Transport in Japan


The kago, a small bamboo or basketwork palanquin, was the main mode of transportation in Japan until the invention of the jinrikisha. The luggage was tied on the roof. It seems that it was not a very comfortable way of traveling. Not for the traveler and even more for the bearers.
