The Arleigh Burke class of destroyers are among the most modern surface combatants serving with the US Navy. The Flight I ships were followed on by Flight II, and Flight IIA ships. The latter included improvements such as a helicopter hangar. These ships primarily provide area air defense to US Navy task groups.
