Blue and white rose-water container, Ming dynasty, China, c1490-1500. Rose-water jug of Near Eastern metal shape with tall conical neck, globular body and long pulled handle. The neck is decorated with a wide band of palm leaves above a narrow classic scroll band and wide band of scrolling flowers. There is a band of overlapping ruyi heads at the shoulder. The body has a wide band of scrolling lotus that weaves in and out of the border confines, and leaves above a narrow band of overlapping petals. The interior has a ceramic filter. A very similar piece was recovered from a shipwreck off Palawan in the Philippines.
