The Madagascar Carnival (Carnaval) is held over the weekend of June nearest to 21 June every year in Antananarivo, the country's capital. It involves representatives from each of the country's provinces participating in a colourful parade, and musical performers , many of them playing traditional instruments, entertain the crowds. There are also attractions aimed at children, such as (manually operated) Ferris wheel rides, face painting and candy floss.
