The buidling earned Barcalys Bank the title of National Green Champion for Environmental Best Practice at the 2004 Green Apple Awards held at the House of Commons in November 2004. The award, from independent environmental group the Green Organisation, is the highest in the banking and finance category. The building has a range of features to cut down on energy use, including lights controlled by occupancy sensors. The heat will be recycled and employees will use recycling hubs instead of bins by their desks. The entire site is built on reclaimed land. The building will have its own water bottling plant and new tenants will receive a starter guide to learn how they can cut down on energy use It is also Britain's first terrorist-proof tall building - able to withstand aircraft and biological terror attacks.
