Liverpool Brazilica - Samba in the city

The History of Liverpool Carnival Company: The Liverpool Carnival Company is the arts charity that presents the Brazilica Festival. Thousands of people across the world are members of samba schools and there are over 300 schools in the UK alone. Liverpool Samba School was formed in 1995 by Roger and Maeve Morris In 1997 we started the monthly ‘Carnival at Cream’ night – not so much a club night as an event in itself; with it’s own street parade, dancers, live music, DJ’s and performers, it was nominated by ‘Mix Mag’ as one of the top 10 club nights in the NW. In 2000 members of the Liverpool Samba School took part in the Parade of Champions in the Sambadrome in Rio’s Millennium Carnaval. What an experience! After two more visits to Brazil we became determined to bring the UK’s first Brazilian festival to Liverpool, providing an exciting platform for groups to get together and celebrate their passion for Brazilian music and the magic of carnival. In 2007 Liverpool Carnival Company (reg. charity 1123036) was formed and was commissioned to produce the first Brazilian Samba Carnival Parade in Liverpool, as part of the city’s 2008 Capital of Culture celebrations. This glittering night-time parade attracted an audience of 30,000 people in its first year. Now in its eighth year the carnival parade is getting bigger and better. From the beginnings of the night-time parade, in 2010 we created a massive three day festival and since 2011 with the support of City Central Bid, Williamson Square at the heart of the city centre we hosted a main stage with music and dance from bands and djs from across the globe. Building on the success of previous years, Brazilica Festival 2016 promises to be even bigger and better than ever before!
